Champions League parade planned

MOTORISTS could face major disruption in Manchester city centre tomorrow... depending on the result of tonight’s Champions League Final.

Manchester United face Barcelona and a victory parade has been planned should they bring home the trophy.

The club were denied the chance to celebrate their victory over Chelsea in last year’s final after Glasgow Rangers fans rampaged through the city when they crashed out of the Uefa Cup final at Manchester City’s Eastlands ground.

If United win tonight’s game there will be a victory parade starting from Manchester Town Hall at 5pm tomorrow.

The victory bus will then travel along Mount Street, Peter Street, Deansgate, Chester Road roundabout, Chester Road and Talbot Road to Trafford town hall.

Some road closures will be put into place from Thursday morning so motorists and public transport users are advised to check their route and plan ahead.

GMPTE’s Michael Renshaw, said: “While it is a good idea for people to use public transport to get to Manchester to see the parade, obviously buses would be affected by the road closures in the heart of the city.

“We are working closely with bus operators to help make sure that services can run as closely as possible to their normal routes if the parade goes ahead.”
