Centenary search by guides

Memories of gentler times are revived in this image of a guide from around 1930
THE search is on for former brownies and guides from across Oldham as the Guiding Association gears up to mark its centenary next year.
The guides were formed by Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of the scouting movement, after girls attended the first scout rally in 1909 at Crystal Palace and insisted that they, too, wanted to get involved.
Now, local branches of the guide movement are looking for anyone who knows someone who was a girl guide or brownie in Oldham between 1910 and 1940, or who was themselves a guide or brownie at that time to get involved.
Local organisers are looking for information on the guide’s name and where they were a member and any memorabilia available.
They are also interested in hearing from anyone who may have been involved in guiding in another country.
Anyone with any information is asked to send details to Guide Centenary Information, 3 Smith Street, Lees, Oldham, OL4 3NQ.
