Friends of Crompton Moor has voted in its own constitution to form the body and ensure it has a voice on the Shaw beauty spot’s future.
Residents fear the moor could be harmed — but claim their views are being ignored.
The pro-active group has now contacted Oldham Council to ensure it is kept up to speed with any developments.
Countryside officers say their ideas for a Crompton Moor outdoor activity park are designed to ensure the moor is used by everyone in harmony.
Proposals include bike trails, varying in difficulty from family tracks to jumps for skilled riders.
But problems arose several years ago when mountain bikers made unofficial trails causing safety problems.
Oldham Council has held a number of workshops to get people involved and is pressing ahead, with the next one scheduled for June 11, 6.30 to 8pm, at Shore Edge Church Hall.
The time will be used to gain views on anti-social behaviour, illegal and illicit uses and uncontrolled access to the moor so problems can be addressed.
