Smart black and blue line

IT’S a new look for local police officers as they showcase their revamped uniform.

Police officers and PCSOs made the change this week following a successful trial this year. The public was consulted on the changes and 74 per cent agreed that a more modern uniform was a good idea.

The uniform replaces the existing shirt, men’s tie, women’s cravat and trousers.

Officers’ uniforms will be a black top with a zip and black trousers while PCSOs will wear the same style but in royal blue.

Hats and high visibility coats will still be a permanent feature and officers will continue to wear body armour and a utility belt as normal.

Supt Catherine Hankinson, who led the review of the operational uniform, said, “It is really important that our officers not only have a uniform that is comfortable and fit for purpose, but one that reflects the modern nature of their roles.

“The feedback we’ve had about the changes has been really positive.

Not only will the uniforms be practical, but they clearly identify officers and PCSOs to the public.”
