Emergency teams put the injured man in the helicopter
Oldham Mountain Rescue Team turned out twice yesterday to answer dramatic emergencies.
Day trippers watched as the team rushed to Dovestone at Greenfield after a man in his thirties received injuries when he jumped from rocks into the reservoir.
The team headed by leader Mick Nield, got the man to safety, handing him over to two paramedics who transferred him to South Yorkshire-based Heli-Med 19 and to Wythenshawe Hospital.
A passer-by at the scene said: “It was very dramatic. There were loads of rescue people. Then a helicopter arrived and took a man away.”
In a separate incident, OMRT answered an emergency call when a woman collapsed in Grotton. She was taken to the Royal Oldham Hospital for treatment.
Mr Nield said: “In addition, our team notched up three calls over the weekend. It’s been a very busy time for us.”
The volunteer team have been actively involved in 47 operations since the beginning of the year.
