Year’s study pays off for teachers

A GROUP of Oldham teachers has been awarded a National Certificate of Continuing Professional Development in Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHEE), enabling them to teach sexual health, relationships and drug education in their schools.

PSHEE aims to help children and young people grow and develop as individuals, as members of families and communities.

Positive Steps director of education services, Steve Murphy, who presented the awards, said: “It’s great to see teachers enhancing their skills and knowledge, particularly in the area of PSHE Education which is undergoing a review at this time.

“The teaching of this subject supports key priorities for the borough such as reducing teenage pregnancies, reducing risk associated with drug misuse and the emotional well-being of children and young people. These teachers are doing a fantastic job.”

Linda Devlin, PSHE lead co-ordinator, said “These teachers have taken a year to complete this certificate. They have had to produce a portfolio of evidence demonstrating good practice in teaching the subject.

“This group of teachers should be very proud of themselves, they have worked hard and their portfolios were of a very high standard.’
