YOUR planet needs you, unite to combat change . . . that’s the message from Oldham Council in the run up to tomorrow’s World Environment Day.

It is an annual event designed to stimulate political attention and action.

This year’s theme reflects the urgency for nations to agree a new deal at a crucial climate convention in Copenhagen later this year. Oldham Council will host an information stand tomorrow (noon-2pm) at Access Oldham, formerly the One-Stop Shop.

Members of the public can get advice on energy efficiency advice, recycling and green travel options.

Councillor Mark Alcock, Cabinet Member for Environment and Infrastructure, said: “We are delighted to support WED as part of our efforts in working towards making Oldham Council and the borough a greener place to help mitigate climate change. I would like to encourage all residents to get involved with World Environment Day by making a small positive change.”

“If we all take a few simple steps, like taking showers rather than baths, we can help to meet the aims of World Environment Day every day of the year.

“I would invite residents to visit the stand where they can get information on a range of environmental issues which are so important if we want to make things better for current and future generations.”
