Three held after dawn drug swoop
Date published: 04 June 2009
THREE people have been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to supply controlled drugs following a series of dawn raids in Werneth and Glodwick.
The arrests formed the final part of Operation Walrus, which has already resulted in 10 people being charged with drugs offences and millions of pounds worth of drugs being recovered, along with tens of thousands of pounds in cash.
Supt Chris Sykes, said: “This operation has already been hugely successful in terms of the amount of drugs we have seized.
“I hope today’s arrests sends a clear message to those involved in the sale and supply of class A drugs — regardless of the part you play — that we will come after you.”
Local officers have been urging people in the community with information about illegal activity to come forward and have distributed leaflets to residents in the surrounding area. Insp Alan Humphries, of the Oldham West neighbourhood policing team, said: “Those involved in criminal activity, not just drug dealing, blight the lives of those around them.
“We have been speaking to the community, listening to what concerns they have and working tirelessly to address them. I would like to take the opportunity to encourage more residents to come and speak to us because tackling the issues that matter to you is my top priority.”
Anyone with any information is asked to contact their local neighbourhood policing team, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
