A UNIQUE dance project that unites youngsters from schools and youth centres across the borough has received a prestigious accolade.
Oldham Dance Platform, which has been running for four years, has won an Equality and Diversity award.
The group, which brings together young people from 30 schools and six youth centres, saw 1,800 dancers perform at events during the winter, spring and summer.
Oldham Sports Development lead the group with the aim of strengthening links between communities and schools and offering a platform for diverse cultures to integrate.
Councillor Kay Knox, cabinet member for children, young people and families, said: “I am delighted that this council initiative has been recognised as the worthy project that it is.
“Through using dance and music the council’s youth service has provided a regular and impressive service for our young people.
“I would like to thank Danny Price who has been behind this scheme from the start for his commitment and dedication to the project.”
The Equality and Diversity awards are given to local authorities in the North-West who strive to change the way people think about each other.
Oldham Dance Platform was one of 12 award winners out of a total of 31 submissions from 17 local authorities and organisations.
