Machete gang’s cash snatch
Date published: 05 June 2009
ARMED men stole a large amount of cash during a robbery on security guards in Failsworth.
The trio, armed with machetes and a sledgehammer, ran over to the security guards as they were servicing the ATM at Tesco on Ashton Road West at 7.20am yesterday.
They demanded cash before grabbing the money and getting into a stolen grey VW Golf driven by a fourth offender.
No one was injured during the robbery and the Golf, which was stolen from the Middleton area on May 31, was later found abandoned in Blackley.
The offenders are believed to have arrived in a white Peugeot van, which they abandoned in Lord Lane.
Det Cons Rick Sample, from Oldham CID, said: “These men got away with a lot of cash and need to be caught.”
Anyone with any information is asked to call Oldham CID on 0161-856 8951 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
