Court packed for assault case

AN OLDHAM man has been remanded in custody after an alleged assault that has left a 38-year-old man in a critical condition in hospital.

Around 40 people crowded into Oldham Magistrates Court yesterday as Gary Hitchins (46), of Woodpark Close, Medlock Vale, was charged with unlawfully and maliciously wounding Darrell McGhee with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. The case was adjourned to Manchester Crown Court on August 18.
