RESCUER Michael Dyer with the abandoned pets
A DOG-LOVER who rescued a bitch and her two pups who were thrown out of a car into the road is incredulous at the heartless action.
Michael Dyer spotted the dogs near his home after he heard two car doors slam and saw a silver people carrier driving away around 10.30pm last Thursday.
He ran out of his house in Keb Lane, Bardsley, and saw another car narrowly miss hitting one of the pups in the dark.
“I managed to get hold of the mother and the pups followed me into the house,” said the 49-year-old.
“I dread to think what would have happened to them if I hadn’t seen them. They could have been killed on the road or the foxes would have had the pups.
“We are in the Medlock Valley and overrun with foxes.”
Michael made a makeshift bed with pillows and blankets in an outhouse for the dogs to keep them away from his playful, boisterous eight-month old Doberman cross Rotweiller.
He kept them until Sunday, when a dog warden arrived to collect the abandoned trio after his wife, Suzanne, reported the incident.
They are now at Manchester Dogs Home in Harpurhey and Michael said: “I only hope someone gives them a home.
“The mother has a fantastic temperament, she was really affectionate and playful, and the pups were jumping about and pulling my hair.
“They would make someone cracking pets. They didn’t seem to have been mistreated, although one of the pups was very thin and they were all really hungry.”
Michael added: “That’s what I can’t understand. I have been a dog owner most of my life, and I can’t think what could have driven someone to throw a lovely dog they may have had since being a pup into the road.
“I would say the mother was about seven or eight, and I’m sure something must have gone really wrong in her owner’s life to make them do something as desperate as that.”
