PEOPLE in the Oldham town centre Dog and Duck pub must start to feel their lives are improving, an Oldham MP told Gordon Brown.
Oldham West and Royton MP Michael Meacher said the Prime Minister must now deliver the changes he is promising if he is to take the country forward.
Mr Meacher said: “We keep talking about what we are going to deliver, but we must get on and do it. I have spoken to Gordon Brown and and said this, and said although we are taxing the rich much more than before — have the people in the Dog and Duck felt it was an improvement in their lives? This is what needs to happen.
“People in Oldham and everywhere need to believe Government is putting them first and experience a better life. When I saw him at No 10 he told me there would be more done on social housing, which I have long called for. But we need actions not words.”
The call comes after Gordon Brown staved off rebel attempts to oust him by pledging to be more transparent at a crucial meeting with Labour backbenchers on Monday.
