Alice dies aged 102
Date published: 10 June 2009
A CENTENARIAN who put her longevity down to a tot of whisky in her tea and a ready smile has died, aged 102.
Alice Briscoe, of Smallwood Road, Shaw, had many friends and family.
Even at 100, she had bags of energy and would never miss her annual holiday to Spain.
She was born Alice Naylor in Sholver Lane, Moorside, and worked in the mills after leaving school.
She married Walter in 1933 and the couple moved to Shaw, but her husband died during the Second World War while serving in a bomb-disposal unit.
