Axe yob smashes door

AN axe-wielding intruder smashed a front door during an attempted burglary in Failsworth.

The 52-year-old victim was at home in Holt Lane Mews at 11.30pm when the door was kicked in.

The offender brandished an axe and managed to break a door panel before screaming “where is he?”. He then run away.

The offender is described as being aged around 18, 5ft 7ins tall and of slim build. He was wearing a light blue hooded top with a black scarf covering the lower half of his face.

Det Cons Andy Parkin, of Oldham CID, said: “This was an absolutely terrifying experience for the householder.

“There’s no reason why the victim would have been targeted in this way, and I’d urge anyone who saw any part of this incident or if you saw someone acting suspiciously to contact us.”
