Bollywood dreamers Andrea Mills and Sukhi Singh
BOLLYWOOD comes to Oldham next month, when the White Hart Inn at Lydgate hosts a fund-raising bash with a touch of decadence.
People can enjoy a six-course gourmet meal and champagne reception as they are entertained by professional dancers — all in the name of charity.
The Christie’s at Oldham Campaign will benefit from the proceeds which the people behind the event, the MillSingh Foundation, hope will bring in somewhere around £10,000.
The evening will include a talk on Oldham’s new radiotherapy centre, given by the Christie Hospital’s chief executive Caroline Shaw, an auction and a prize draw. It is the foundation’s first charity event.
A pair experienced in charity work and fund-raising — Sukhi Singh and Andrea Mills are the foundation’s founders.
Sukhi, who is the postmaster of Dobcross post office, said: “We have already had substantial donations and sponsorship and everyone has given their time for free. It will be a wonderful evening.”
Around two-thirds of the 18 tables for the July 11 event have already been snapped up. As an extra incentive, one person on each table of 10 will win a meal for two.
Andrea said the pair established the foundation three months ago to raise money for charities which benefit local residents.
She has served on the Saddleworth Committee, raising money for Dr Kershaw’s Hospice, acted as secretary of the Royal Oldham Charity Trust Board for seven years, and has organised events for The Friends of the Halle Orchestra, the Lords Rhodes Trust, and the Shrievalty Trust of Greater Manchester.
Sukhi is a school governor, has organised the Dobcross village fete, and served for six years on Dobcross Village Association, the latter two as chairman, and has even featured on TV’s “Masterchef.”
Andrea said: “The occasion promises to be one truly unforgettable evening, and the dress code is black tie or traditional Indian.
