Travellers pay flying visit

TRAVELLERS returned to the former B&Q car park on Friday — two months after their last visit.
Four white caravans, as well as pickup trucks, were parked at the corner of the former car park in Mumps, but then left as suddenly as they had arrived.
Travellers last visited Oldham twice in April and forced the site owners to foot an expensive clean-up bill after tons of rubbish was left.
The issue of establishing barriers at the entrance to the site was also discussed following the visit.
Councillor Mark Alcock, cabinet member for environment and infrastructure, said: “Council officers are aware of this latest problem and we are working with B&Q.
“To clean the borough and remove fly-tipping costs us around £2 million a year and, obviously, this money could be far better spent elsewhere.”
