Bus stabbing - man held after knife attack

A 28-YEAR-OLD man has been charged with assault and firearms offences after a brutal knife attack on a bus passenger and man in Werneth.

The 33-year-old victim was on the number 184 service from Piccadilly, Manchester, when he was confronted by another passenger at around 9.40pm on Wednesday, June 3.
At this point, the bus was near to King Street in Oldham.

During the altercation the offender pulled out a knife and stabbed the man twice in the leg before fleeing from the bus.

Corey Johnson, of no fixed address, has been charged with assault, causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon.

He was remanded in custody at Oldham Magistrates’ Court on Friday until August 25, when he will appear at Manchester Crown Court.

Johnson was also charged with a second assault, causing grievous bodily harm with intent, and firearms offences in connection with an incident at Buxton Place, Werneth, in the early hours of the following day, Thursday, June 4.

Police were called to the address following reports of an assault at around 1.20am.

Officers found a 26-year-old man had suffered stab wounds to the head, back, arms and stomach.

They believe one of the offenders was armed with a shotgun.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment, where his condition is currently described as serious, but stable.
