BAGS OF ENTHUSIASM . . . Marcelle Buckley from Regenda with young Limehurst residents taking part in the litter pick
A skirt, a shoe, socks, a washing up bowl and footballs were picked up from Limehurst Estate when neighbours collected 40 bags of rubbish.
They got together for European Neighbours’ Day with a series of events on the estate, which is managed by the Regenda Group. Regenda staff, and partners from Oldham Council, joined residents for a litter pick around the neighbourhood, armed with protective gloves and litter grabbers.
European Neighbours’ Day was created in 1999 as a reaction against loneliness, indifference and fear, and was celebrated last year by 28 countries.
Andrei Szatkowski, regional director for Regenda, said: “The day reflects our commitment to bringing people together.
“We are very excited to be doing something positive and constructive such as the litter pick, and seeing our residents helping us to promote community cohesion.”
John Norris, area manager for Oldham Council said: “Regenda is particularly proactive when working with the community and demonstrate high standards of neighbourhood management. It was a pleasure joining their enthusiastic staff members and getting involved in the litter pick.”
