An Oldham hotel with stunning views will be the venue for a charity event this weekend in aid of Dr Kershaw’s Hospice.

Pat Riley, co-owner of the Grains Bar Hotel, at Grains Bar, wants to raise thousands for Dr Kershaw’s by celebrating her 75th birthday over two days.

On Saturday, she has invited 100 guests to a dinner with a marquee in the grounds, and is asking them for generous donations, but on Sunday she is throwing open the hotel and grounds to the public.

There will be a brass band, music from a DJ, plant, bric a brac and bedding sales, raffles and face- painting.

Pat, who lost her husband Bernard 24 years ago, has also created a garden in memory of her daughter Jeanette who died four years ago aged 48.

She said: “It was where she used to park her car and look at the view, so it was the ideal place, but with bad weather it has been touch and go to get it finished.”

Visitors will be able to see the view for themselves, and listen to Oldham (Lees) Band from 1pm to 2pm.

There will also be a buffet, children’s attractions, and the bars are open.

Admission is free but Pat hopes visitors will make generous donations to Dr Kershaw’s. The event runs from noon to 7pm.
