Council plan is aiming high
Date published: 18 June 2009
A COUNCIL plan aimed at improving services will go before members next week.
The main objectives of One Place, Many Choices, are to create:
::Safe neighbourhoods, with clean, green spaces, and strong communities.
::A university town with good education, learning and training opportunities to improve skills and choice.
::Healthy and active living with suitable housing for all.
::Quality services that provide value for residents.
The plan was drawn up following widespread consultation with residents and after identifying essential improvements the council must make.
Councillor Howard Sykes, leader of the council, said: “I normally prefer action to plans but this one is very important and maps out what we are going to achieve.
“We will not rest until our borough is up there with the best. We are aiming high and have made a good start with many positive initiatives, but there is a long way to go.”
The draft plan is on the council’s website at www.Oldham.gov.uk
