A great day out down on the farm
Date published: 18 June 2009
AN open day at Hanging Chadder Farm in Royton was a big success as more than 1,000 people turned up.
They met everything from alpacas and goats to cows, pigs and sheep as part of Open Farm Sunday, which encourages farms to open to the public so that people can learn where their food comes from.
Philip Day, who runs the farm with his brother, Colin, said: “We had a wide range of meat from the beef herd and pigs on sale, along with our own farmhouse-made jams and chutneys and duck eggs, and free range eggs brought in from a local poultry farm.
“Visitors were able to taste the quality of our goods in the tea room. It was a roaring success and by the end of the day everything was sold out.
“Hopefully the success of this event will assist us in gaining planning approval to open a farm shop in the near future.”
