OLDHAM Euro-MP Chris Davies has been awarded for his effort to highlight ways of curbing global warming emissions.

At a ceremony in Bucharest, the MEP was praised for “relentless commitment” in winning support for Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology, which takes carbon dioxide out of coal and gas for permanent storage in rocks deep underground.

Davies was described as playing a key role by winning support for a scheme that will raise £5 billion in support for the new technology.

Mr Davies said he was glad his work in the European Parliament had stimulated progress.
