Ladies reach for their gladrags

STYLISH local ladies turned on the glitz to enjoy their very own day at the famous Ascot races — and all without leaving town.

Glamour pusses across the borough donned their finery and their statement hats before heading to venues across the borough for a good knees up while watching the races on big screens.

And even better, their endeavours raised a stack for charities all across Oldham.

The women who headed to Clough Manor in Denshaw used their ladies day as a chance to sign their newly launched calendar, in which 13 women gave up their time, and clothes, to pose and make money for Macmillan nurses.

Other local women turned on the style and headed to the White Hart in Lydgate to boost cash reserves at cherished local charity, Dr Kershaw’s Hospice.

Yet more smart ladies flocked to the Old Bell Inn at Delph to benefit Macmillan and Myasthenia Gravis, an auto-immune disease.

Both were chosen this year as the charities of new Saddleworth Parish Council Chair, Alma McInnes.

Spirits were also high at the Crompton and Royton Golf Club, where the champagne was flowing and the generous women raised a whopping £2,500 for Link4Pink appeal, which supports the Victoria Breast Unit at the Royal Oldham Hospital.
