bCONFECTIONERY crazy Jade Taylor let her love of marshmallows go to her head.
The 19-year-old, from Uppermill, commissioned an edible hat made entirely from marshmallows which she wore during Ladies Day at Royal Ascot yesterday.
The metre-wide hat was specially created for Jade by Leeds-based award-winning milliner Maggz Bennett and features over 1,000 pink and white marshmallows.
And the stunning creation saw Miss Taylor win a magnum of champagne in the Racing Post’s most momentous millinery daily competition.
She said: “I am mad on marshmallows, I eat them every day. When I was thinking about what hat to wear this Ladies Day I really wanted something which was unique to me — so I thought a marshmallow hat would be just the ticket.”
She added: “I’ve told my friends that if I back a winner I really will eat my hat, which will of course be a real pleasure.”
Milliner Maggz Bennett, who owns the company Hats by Billy, said: “It was great to get the call from Jade. Her commission is the most unusual I have ever worked on.
“I had to start by designing and crafting a hat that would be strong enough to support so many marshmallows.
“Each marshmallow had to be glued on individually by hand – which took nearly three weeks to do.
“It was a painstaking process but I am so delighted with the result.”
Heather Jones, from Princess Marshmallows, which donated the sweets said: “We were tickled pink to receive the request for product to decorate the hat.
“They’re definitely fit for royalty attending Ladies Day.”
