DIGNITARIES enjoyed bright sunshine and a fitting church service as the new chairman of Shaw and Crompton Parish Council was officially welcomed with a procession.
Councillor Mari Wiswell led the way on her special occasion on Civic Sunday, followed by the mayors and mayoresses of Oldham, Saddleworth, Ripponden and Todmorden and Oldham’s new youth mayor.
Dobcross Silver Band performed as the group marched from the Shaw Lifelong Learning Centre in High Street to St James East Crompton Church, St James Street.
There, Rev Alan Butler led the service and Councillor Wiswell read a poem.
Councillor Wiswell said: “It went fantastically well and the sun shone. It was a lovely day and we had a nice time.
“There was a good turnout. Everyone liked the service and the choice of hymns and the councillors reaffirmed their commitment.”
