Obama, the black-faced Lees llama named in honour of the President of the United States, has taken a wife.
And her owners have named the frisky new addition to their growing menagerie, Michelle, after America’s first lady.
Initially, Obama the llama, had become a solo star attraction for customers visiting Cockfields Farm, in Lees New Road, which also includes a pet’s corner.
Farm owner David Mort and his manager Mark Navin came up with the name after Barack Obama took over from George Bush in January.
But now flighty Michelle has entered the limelight at Obama’s side and the pair are proving a big hit with families who visit the farm.
Mark (28), from Greenacres who manages the farm and large aquarium, said: “Michelle is a real tease. She’s really turned Obama’s head.
“At the moment, they are in separate pens but Obama’s constantly making eyes at her. If they have a family, we’ll name their offspring after President Obama’s children — Malia and Sasha.
“Obama and Michelle could not have been more apt names for the Llamas. Like the president and his wife, they are both the new kids on the block with our other pets.
“We have piglets, donkeys, turtles and rare fish in our aquarium. But I reckon the Obama’s have stolen the show — just like the real President and his wife on the world stage.”
David and Mark got the new llama from a Cheshire farm. “She’s a little beauty,” added Mark. “Between them they are bound to become show-stoppers for customers. They are already gaining a fan club.
“Llamas have a natural curiosity and are very customer-friendly,” he added.
