SHOPPERS in Oldham have been encouraged to love their lungs as part of the British Lung Foundation’s “Breathe Easy” week.
Respiratory specialist nurses and physiotherapist, community matrons, stop smoking advisors from Oldham Community Health Services and members of the local Breathe Easy group were at the Spindles Shopping Centre on Friday.
Shoppers who suffered from a persistent cough, breathlessness or a wheezy chest were urged to contact their GP for a lung function test.
Advice was also offered on stopping smoking, lung disease and on the local Breath Easy support network.
Lynn Daniel, British Lung Foundation nurse with Oldham Community Health Services, said: “One person in every seven in the UK is affected by lung disease, and respiratory disease is the second biggest killer in the UK.
“Oldham has high levels of respiratory problems, so this event is one of the ways we are trying to raise awareness among local people — if they have symptoms, they can get help early, which makes treatment more effective.”
