PEACE ambassadors... children at Stanley Road with their parade flags
A new peace garden and peace pole have been unveiled at SS Aidan and Oswald School, Royton by Mayor of Oldham, Councillor Jim McArdle and Mayoress, Councillor Kay Knox.
The garden is in memory of former teachers Helen Fitzpatrick and Pat Jones, who died after a long battle with cancer last year, and former pupil Martin Glazier, who died suddenly following an asthma attack in January.
Pupils and staff held special prayers for them and their friends and family, followed by a flag ceremony to promote peace.
Meanwhile, children at Stanley Road Primary School, Chadderton, also held a flag ceremony to promote global peace.
Claire Crawford, curriculum leader, said: “The aim of the ceremony was to get children to think about how they can change the world by their actions and thoughts.
“Five schools have been involved in this and we are encouraging others to participate so that one day we have a joint flag ceremony for Oldham.”
