Security mark to beat crime

CHADDERTON Neighbourhood Policing Team is holding a property marking session at Chadderton Hall Park tonight and tomorrow.

Mobile phones, MP3 players and bikes will be security marked free of charge between 6 and 8pm.

Officers will also be offering advice on how to avoid becoming a victim of street crime.

Insp Dave Willcocks said: “Every year, thousands of pounds worth of stolen property is recovered by police, but a lot of it is never returned to its owners because it cannot be identified as being theirs.

“Property marking your valuables acts as a visual deterrent to thieves and helps ensure the police can contact you directly if you lose your possessions.

“Most robberies are opportunistic, so my advice is to keep valuables out of sight — don’t flaunt what you’ve got. It is better still to leave them at home to decrease the chances of them being robbed.”
