PUPILS at Crompton Primary School, Shaw, are showing compassion for less fortunate children by sending dozens of boxes of toys and clothes.
In association with the Rotary International, the school has been filling shoe boxes to send to youngsters in Romania and other Eastern European countries.
The Rotary Shoebox Scheme started in 1994 when boxes of gifts were sent at Christmas to Romania.
Following an appeal by Stuart Sawle, of Rotary International, the children at Crompton Primary have filled over 75 shoe boxes.
The scheme involves the children paying £1 for a shoe box and filling it with a variety of toys and clothes suitable for a child of a specific age.
The boxes are then decorated by the children and some have included a short letter to the recipients.
Head teacher Martin Moore said: “This is a tremendous effort by the children and shows their concern for children from all parts of the world.”
Year 5 pupil Ella Pass said: “It’s great fun filling the boxes and I have lots of toys to play with.
“It only seems fair to share some of them with other children.”
