Sitting pretty after donation
Date published: 29 June 2009
A SEVEN-year-old boy described as a little miracle has been testing out new children’s furniture at The Royal Oldham Hospital.
Danyal Kausar, of Oldham, was born 11 weeks premature and spent three months in the hospitals neo-natal unit.
His baby sister, Haleema, is now also being looked after in the ward after being born prematurely in March and is doing very well.
Thanks to £450 worth of furniture and children’s equipment donated by The Royal Oldham Hospital League of Friends, visiting time for Danyal and his parents is a lot more comfortable.
Katie Broadbent, a staff nurse on the unit, said: “Danyal and Haleema have both been described as little miracles by their mother.
“Sitting in a waiting room can be hard for siblings who may make many trips to the unit during the admission of their baby brother or sister.
“The furniture has been placed in the family room and includes a table and four chairs, two modern units to store toys and a refrigerator.
“Along with four coloured, stackable, child-sized visitor’s chairs, the children can now sit comfortably with mum and dad while they are visiting their new addition to the family.
“Both myself and Sister Janine Alfrey would like to say a big thank-you to the League of Friends for its donation.”
Joan Tomlinson, chairman of the League of Friends, said: “I am really pleased to be making this donation and we hope the new furniture will help to make the visiting times enjoyable for the children and relaxing for the parents.
“Other recent donations by the League of Friends include a television and fish-tank for the bereavement office, DVD games for the children’s ward, and a table tennis table and Wii games for Parklands House.
“All of which add up to a tremendous £5,000 and we will continue to support the hospital as we have done for many years.”
