Family’s unhappy return

A FAMILY will return from holiday to scenes of devastation this morning after an electrical fault sparked a fire at their home in Collier Hill Avenue, Hollins.

The blaze, believed to have started in the fridge or freezer, destroyed the kitchen and left the entire ground floor fire-damaged, with smoke damage spreading to the first floor.

Neighbours told fire crews, who arrived on the scene at 1am, that the family, believed to be a couple and three children, were away and it is not known whether they know what has happened to their semi-detached property.

Watch manager at Hollins fire station, Paul Anderson, said: “It’s a horrible situation but very fortunate no-one was in the house at the time because the family didn’t have any smoke alarms fitted.”
