A TEACHER has been arrested after claims that indecent images of children were found on a computer at South Chadderton School.
Nigel Hooley (32) was immediately suspended by the Butterworth Lane school and has been bailed by police until August 7.
Police say head teacher Chris Hill is believed to have discovered the images on a laptop on June 17.
They are believed to have been downloaded from the Internet and do not feature pupils at the school. Pupils are not thought to have seen the images.
Mr Hooley, who is head of maths, is a Conservative councillor in Trafford where he had been suspended from all his official duties.
Vernon Cressey, chairman of governors at South Chadderton, said: “Immediately this was discovered, Mr Hooley was suspended and it is being investigated by the local authority and the police.”
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possessing indecent images of children and has been bailed pending further inquiries.
“At 6.25pm on June 17 police received a report of suspected indecent images being found on a laptop computer belonging to South Chadderton School.”
