Double top for Oldham
Date published: 02 July 2009
It’s double top for Oldham as two civic officials take top jobs at the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities.
Council leader Howard Sykes has been appointed vice-chairman of the association, which is made up of all 10 Greater Manchester local authorities and which helps to co-ordinate policy and strategy for the region.
This follows on from the news that Charlie Parker, Chief Executive of Oldham Council, also has extra responsibility on AGMA as the champion of the Greater Manchester Environment Commission.
Councillor Sykes said: “To be elected as the vice-chairman of AGMA is good news for Oldham. With myself and Charlie holding these senior positions it really helps to ensure that Oldham is very much at the heart of any discussions that affect the city region.
“Working through AGMA can have real benefits to Oldham, as the recent Metrolink announcement has shown.”
