Calling Hathershaw Tech’s class of 1959

Date published: 06 July 2009

Former classmates will be celebrating in September — a half-century since they started at Hathershaw Tech.

Nigel Marland, Keith Royales, Mike Russell, Graham Sager and Colin Waldron want others to join them to mark the 50th anniversary of when they all started at Hathershaw Technical High School in September, 1959.

The Bellfield Avenue School is now known as Hathershaw Technology College. Nigel worked their for over 20 years until he took early retirement from his post as assistant head teacher. Now he and his friends have decided to hold an anniversary reunion — if there is sufficient interest.

Nigel said: “We certainly intend to include a tour of the school as it is now.

“Internally it has changed dramatically and I am certain it will be of great interest to the ex-students, the majority of whom will not have seen it for over 40 years. The ideal scenario would be to hold it on a Saturday with a tour of the school in the afternoon and then a meal and social gathering in the evening.”

Students, members of staff and any other students from that period who would be interested in attending are asked to ring Nigel on 0161-624 4087 or 07884261745, or Keith on 01942 810491 or 07889006995 as soon as possible.

Nigel added: “It would also be helpful if people who are in contact with ex-classmates now living out of the area could either let them know of the intended reunion or e-mail their details to me at nigel.marland@ntlworld.com
