Golden day . . . Keith and Rosalind Slater
A former Oldham couple flew from their home in Canada to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary with family and friends in Oldham on Saturday.
Rosalind and Keith Slater celebrated at the Clough Manor in Denshaw.
The pair, who have three daughters, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild, first met at a wedding in 1955 — then not again for two years, when their relationship began..
Keith (73) said: “I thought she was lovely and had to talk to her.”
Rosalind (69) said: “I’d remembered him from the wedding two years earlier and was really glad to see him again.”
They married in 1959 and moved to Guelph, near Toronto during the Sixties, where Keith was an assistant professor in the chemistry department at the University of Guelph.
Rosalind, a former hairdresser, later took a master’s degree at the same university.
Keith said: “It means a lot to celebrate here with our family. Two of our daughters couldn’t make it over from Canada, but we’ll be having another celebration when we get back home.”
