MEMORIES of a much-loved caretaker will live on at St Anne’s School, Lydgate, following the completion of a Memorial Garden.
Yvonne Green, who lived in the school grounds, was caretaker at the primary from 1989 until her death in 2005.
Staff at the school wanted to remember their friend and colleague by creating a garden and wildlife area in her memory.
Thanks to the hard work carried out over the past few months by TNG, the country’s largest training providers, the school has officially opened the garden.
During an outdoor assembly, tributes were paid to Mrs Green, prayers read and songs sung before refreshments were provided in her former house, which has been converted into an arts facility.
Members of Mrs Green’s family, including her husband Ken and daughter Serena, attended and provided a table for the garden.
Suzanne Bergin, school business manager, said: “Yvonne was loved by everyone.
“You could always go to her with your problems and she was lovely with the children.
“We are absolutely delighted with the work done by TNG, which designed and built the gardens, which has a plaque in memory of Yvonne.
“The children love it and staff have got somewhere to sit and reflect.”
David Wilkinson, placement officer for TNG, said: “There were about 10 people who worked on the garden every day for the past few months.
“I was very impressed with the work the lads have done.”
