Survey chance to shape the future

A move by the Peak District National Park to include Saddleworth residents in a major survey has been welcomed.

The Peak District National Park Authority is sending out surveys to 2,700 addresses, randomly selected from the park’s 38,000 population.

Householders will be given the chance to have their say about the way the area is managed.

The information will be used to help the authority assess the services it provides residents, examine what is working well and what could be improved in the future.

And the plan is good news, according to the 200-strong Greenfield and Grasscroft Residents’ Association.

Secretary, Mike Rooke, said: “It is a good sign that people from Saddleworth living in the national park are being consulted.

“We would certainly encourage them to complete and return the surveys.

“It is important our area feels part of the national park.

“We understand the borough is making a direct link with the park at senior level and, although not connected, this survey is a positive move.”

Jim Dixon, chief executive of the Peak District National Park Authority, said: “If we are to reflect the priorities of local people in decisions we make, it is vital we know what they want to see.

“The survey covers a range of issues including planning, the support given to communities and local businesses and the way we deal with inquiries from members of the public.

“I hope that everyone who receives the survey will spare a few minutes to complete it as it will help us deliver services that better meet the needs of local people.

“All the information given is entirely confidential and will not be passed on to anyone else.”

Everyone who returns the survey by the deadline of Friday, July 24 in the pre-paid envelope supplied will be entered into the draw to win a day out with a national park ranger.

The prize includes a visit to the former railway tunnels on the Monsal Trail, normally closed to the public.

Anyone with questions about the survey can ring the authority’s customer services team on 01629-816 200.
