Where’s our blooming flowers?

A GLODWICK shopkeeper has hit out at the council for failing to put up flower boxes in the area.

Brenda Heath, who has run Alexandra House in Park Road for 50 years, said she is appalled that Glodwick is being left out as flower displays are blooming elsewhere across the borough.

Mrs Heath said: “The council has put up flower baskets in Hollinwood, Waterhead and Lees, but why not in Glodwick?

“We pay council tax like everybody else. This is a very dull looking area and there’s nothing to brighten it up.

“I have asked councillors to push for flower baskets in the area but we’ve been told by the council that it has no money for us.

“I want to know why we are being missed out all the time. We’ve never had communal flowers. I’ve had to put up the baskets outside my shop myself.”

She added: “The council has put up flowers everywhere, including Yorkshire Street, for its bloom and grow initiative and once again we’ve missed out. I want to know why?”

Glen Dale, the council’s horticultural services manager, said the majority of flower boxes displayed across the borough were funded by area committees, now known as district partnerships.

He added: “It is down to the individual or business to approach their district partnerships and persuade councillors to help towards the floral displays.”
