Learning is a way of life for apprentice decorator Kate Roberts, from First Choice Homes Oldham.
And her success has led her to the top — Kensington Roof Gardens in London, where she was awarded the Leading Learner of the Year national award.
Kate was surrounded by pink flamingos and exotic greenery when she was presented with her award from the Learning and Skills Improvement Service.
Kate completed her NVQ Levels Two and Three in only two years — instead of the usual three — and passed both her final exams with a distinction, the only person to do so in her class.
She has also been nominated for numerous awards both in First Choice Homes, and via Oldham College.
She was a finalist for both regional and national awards in Student of the Year, North-West Apprentice of the Year and Leading Learner of the Year.
Kate said: “I am over the moon that I won this award, especially being told that they had received a record number of nominations this year. I am honoured to be representing First Choice Homes Oldham and The Oldham College.”
First Choice Homes chief executive Hugh Broadbent said: “These awards are attributed to her continued boundless energy and compassion, drive and enthusiasm.
“As well as providing outstanding customer service, Kate always goes the extra mile for the customers whose homes she works in and has often helped to get support and action where it is needed for these customers.
“As well as being a positive ambassador and a mentor for women in the building industry, Kate is also the face of Leyland Paints — a national campaign.”
Kate was chosen by Leyland, whose paints she uses at work on First Choice Homes properties, to be their face in a series of advertisements across the trade press.
