A GUN, believed to have been used in the murder of an innocent shop assistant in Salford, was found under a car in Primrose Bank.

The weapon, a Mac-10 submachine pistol, which can fire 30 bullets in less than two seconds, was found by member of the public in Hinton Street, off Park Road, Oldham and is being examined by forensics teams.

Shop worker Nasar Hussain (30), known locally as Nasar Shazad, was shot up to six times at point blank range at Brookhouse Wines, Winton, Eccles, on Saturday.

The Oldham Chronicle understands that the hitman may have been targeting someone else and that Mr Hussain was killed in error.

Detectives are now investigating links to another shooting in March when a 28-year-old man was shot in in Bolton Street, Glodwick.

They are also investigating whether the shooting is linked to gangs in Bolton and Manchester.

Armed police with riot shields swooped on flats in Drury Lane, Chadderton, just hours after the shooting in Salford.

Neighbours said they saw two women being led away in handcuffs.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said nothing had been recovered from Drury Lane and no one had been arrested.

Oldham Councillor Asaf Ali said a worried resident, who lives near Hinton Street, spoke to him on Sunday.

He said: “The police had been doing door-to-door inquiries, but he was not aware of what had been going on and was a bit surprised.

“The police wanted to know if his children had played near the car where the gun was found.”

Councillor Ali said there had been recent reports of drug dealing in nearby Ward Street, with constituents asking for something to be done.

He said: “It is becoming a bit of a hang-out area, a quiet area with only one access.”

Ward Street is a short distance from the car hire premises where a hand gun was found during a police raid on May 22 this year.

In total, 12 people have been arrested in connection with the murder.

A man was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender on Monday, and another — arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder on Sunday — also remains in police custody.

Six men and two women arrested on Saturday on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder have been bailed until August 17 pending further inquiries.

Officers have gained warrants of further detention on two other men, also arrested on Saturday on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder, and they remain in police custody for questioning.
