A 33-YEAR-OLD man was subjected to a vicious “Reservoir Dogs” style attack in which a machete-wielding gang cut off his ear, leaving him scarred for life.

The victim was walking along George Street playing fields, Milnrow Road, Shaw, when a gang of three or four thugs struck him from behind.

The man, who was minding his own business, was ruthlessly hit across the face with a machete, severing his left ear and causing a deep wound to his neck.

He was then stabbed repeatedly in the back. But despite the terrifying attack, the victim staggered to a nearby friend’s house who alerted police.

The attack resembles a scene in the violent Quentin Tarantino blockbuster where a man’s ear is hacked off by a gangster.

Officers are anxious to speak to anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the attack which happened shortly after midnight on Monday.

Det Sgt Ian Webb, of Oldham CID, said the assault has left the victim with severe injuries which will leave scars for life.

He added: “This was a shocking attack on a man who was making his way home and had done nothing to provoke them.

“Luckily, it wasn’t life-threatening. He’s been left with serious injuries, but it could have been much worse.

“I’d urge anyone who saw any part of the attack to contact us. If you know who is responsible, you must call us.”

The man was taken to the Royal Oldham Hospital, but has since been discharged.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Oldham CID on 0161-856 8951. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
