THE Oldham Eagles skated into Grange School to convince sport-loving youngsters that roller-hockey is worth a look.

The Eagles, who practise at the Oldham Sports Centre and play in the roller-hockey league at Salford University, are on a recruitment drive and it was first stop Grange for an energetic demonstration.

And the pupils were clearly impressed, with the team set to return to the school in January to run a six-week after-school club.

Coach and manager of the over-18s senior team, Phillip Gough, sent an invitation out to a number of Oldham schools, offering to show the students what roller-hockey is all about.

He said: “Roller-hockey doesn’t enjoy the high profile of some other sports because it’s seen as being very rough, like ice-hockey, but it’s actually a non-contact sport.”

The team, which includes four girls, is split into different age groups, with ages ranging from under-12s to over-18s.

Phillip added: “We would really like more people to come along and see what we are all about. Roller-hockey is still a minority sport so why not try something completely different?”
