Writer David Bolton wants to make his mark in sit-com writing
A TALENTED comedy writer hopes to have audiences in stitches when his work is featured at a fringe alternative to the Manchester International Festival.
The work of David Bolton, from Shaw, will feature in “Not Part of Festival” at Manchester University tomorrow and Saturday.
David has always enjoyed writing and first discovered he had a knack for comedy when he devised sketches and plays for his classmates to perform at school.
After meeting writing partner Roy Knowles, from Rossendale, at Oldham Coliseum’s WritingLAB, the pair are now aiming to make their mark in the world of situation comedy.
Their work will feature as part of Sit-com Shorts — a result of collaboration by members of Manchester Comedy Writers’ Group, set up by David three years ago.
He said: “I’m excited by the possibilities — where the show may progress, in this format or something developed from it.”
David has seen his work performed in Bristol, Warrington and the Leicester Comedy Festival, while one of Roy’s short comic pieces came out on top in an audience poll at Oldham Coliseum’s 2007 Wordsmith Festival. Both writers also attend the READit play reading sessions at the Coliseum, which Mr Bolton has helped organise. For tickets, priced £5, call 0161-275 8951.
