Fines quashed after civic error

Guests at the farewell concert for Music Centre director Eileen Bentley will get their parking penalty notices scrapped after a civic blunder.
Enforcement staff slapped tickets on some cars outside the Queen Elizabeth Hall on Sunday after a “communications hitch”.
Now, Oldham Council says guests will not be out of pocket.
Council leader Howard Sykes said: “This was a significant event to recognise the amazing contribution of someone who has done so much for Oldham.
“In order to ensure that people remember this concert has been the high point of Eileen’s illustrious career, any people who were issued a penalty charge on Sunday on the civic centre car park while attending this event should write to the Parking Shop, Room 4B, Oldham Civic Centre, West Street, Oldham, OL1 1UH.”
