Date published: 10 July 2009
WORK to provide a more reliable water supply for customers in Royton gets under way this month.
United Utilities engineers will be replacing old Victorian water mains in Rochdale Road with plastic pipes as part of a £750,000 improvement scheme.
The work, which starts on July 18, begins at Rochdale Road’s junction with Middleton Road, and runs to Dogford Road. The work is expected to take six weeks, and a short diversion via Sandy Lane and Rochdale Lane will be in place.
Ian Harris, from United Utilities, said: “These improvements will mean a better quality water service for thousands of customers.
“The work has been timed to coincide with the school holidays to try and keep disruption to a minimum.
