The new president of Saddleworth Rotary Club is planning to launch a drive for new members.
Malcolm Hill, who has taken over the high-profile role from Stan Bowes, president of the European Pallet Association, said: “I am determined to run a very active campaign to recruit more members.
“The club has tremendous loyalty and support from a strong base of mature members but we would welcome more local people to swell our ranks.
“Rotary is a splendid organisation and focuses on doing valued work for charities in the local community. I am sure it will appeal to anyone who is public-spirited and believes in helping others.”
Mr Hill, from Grasscroft, is a member of the Flying Rotarians and has his own Piper Arrow four-seater plane in which he pilots Saddleworth members to meetings across the country.
He added: “In addition to next year’s Saddleworth Summer Show with Oldham Metro, we have our own schedule of special charity events, which, hopefully, will encourage more like-minded people to join us.”
Mr Hill, who has held the president’s post previously in 1986-87, is the boss of a major Oldham-based timber distribution company.
The club, which has its headquarters at the White Hart, Lydgate, has also appointed a new secretary, Barry Lees, who takes over from John Gartside. Tony Beswick becomes membership secretary.
