PIRATES, penguins, Noddy and friends and other colourful characters packed the pubs as High Crompton celebrated a record beer walk.
The fun started on Saturday with 28 teams, featuring 207 people, taking part in the fancy dress crawl between six pubs.
The cash collected is still being counted but they will have raised thousands for various charities.
A few downpours on the night failed to dampen spirits.
Harry Batey, one of the organisers, said: “It went very well. I think it must be a record turnout.
“It was absolutely packed in pretty much every pub.
“We never know how much the individual teams raise as they all collect for their own charities but it must have been quite a lot.”
One team took £300 in collection tins — prompting organisers to predict around £6,000 could have been raise on the night, not including sponsorship.
Then, on Sunday, an inflatable assault course derby for children was the star attraction at St Mary’s Primary School playing fields, along with stalls, a cafe, barbecue and bouncy castle.
It was a new feature, replacing the previous donkey derby and space hopper derby, and the weather stayed mainly sunny for the crowds.
Mr Batey said: “It seemed to go quite well and the children who took part enjoyed it. We’ve not finalised the amount raised but it will be around £1,500 to £2,000 for St Mary’s Church and school funds.”
The weekend is organised by High Crompton Christian Men’s Fellowship to raise money for good causes. Sponsoring the event were local companies, Warburton’s Bakers, Lancashire Wallpaper and Paint, DH Lees and Sons Butchers, Hedley Jackson Funeral Directors, High Crompton Post Office, High Crompton Conservative Club, Pyro Protection Ltd, Dawson Precision Components and Howarth Timber and Building Supplies.
The overall winning beer walk team was Noddy and Friends — Elaine Mounsey, Joan Dennis, Christine Batey, Elaine Gregg and Anne Clegg — with Chain Gang scooping the best men’s team and CSI High Crompton the best ladies team.
