YOUNGSTERS celebrate the new playground with Gemma Pierce (left) and Katy Lloyd (right), of Groundwork
SCHOOLchildren in Failsworth celebrated the opening of a play area they helped to design, plan and transform.
Parent and PTA member Gemma Pierce helped to secure funding for the park at Woodhouses Primary School from the Royal Bank of Scotland’s Supergrounds scheme.
Gemma works for Natwest Stockbrokers, part of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group.
Teachers, parents and bank staff joined youngsters to explore the new area and all its features — including seats, plants and a twigloo.
Gemma said: “As a parent and PTA member I know what a difference a playground like this makes to the lives of the children and I’m really proud that the bank, through RBS Supergrounds, has turned the school’s dream into a reality.”
Head teacher Michelle Vickers added: “Our new playground is fantastic and it really does allow the children to learn while they play.
“We are so pleased to have Gemma Pierce as a parent and PTA member, her commitment to the school is fantastic and helping us, via RBS Supergrounds, will ensure that she has left us a legacy for the future.”
Groundwork Oldham and Rochdale helped with the installation of benches and the twigloo. Katy Lloyd, project officer and Supergrounds adviser, said: “I think that the scheme has really improved the grounds by providing somewhere quiet where the pupils can go and relax.”
